How to Sew Pajamas
In this How to Sew Pajamas class, you will make a pair of pajama bottoms that are comfortable and easy to fit with an elastic casing. Using a commercial pattern, you will cut and sew the bottoms using the same techniques you'll need to make skirts with elastic waistlines, and pants with casings. This is an easy project for beginners - all you need to know is how to operate a sewing machine, and we'll teach you the rest! Supplies You Will Need to Bring
Fabric for your pajamas (see specifics below), matching thread, and 1-1/3yard 3/4" elastic.
We will have needles, scissors, pins and other notions for your use during your session. If you decide you love sewing, we can advise you on what basic supplies you'll need to set up your own studio at home.
You can purchase your fabric at Kalico Fabric or any other fabric store, but do WASH and iron the fabric beforehand. We don't want your pajamas to shrink after you make it!
Fabric – Yardage needed for pajama bottoms is listed. If you want to make a matching set (top & Bottom) you should also enroll in Beginning Sewing IV project. Then buy enough fabric for both projects.
Suggested Fabrics Cotton and cotton blends, cotton flannel, chambray, broadcloth. Silky fabrics can be used, but they are a challenge to sew!
Do not purchase fabrics that need to match (stripes and plaids).
Yardage needed For short pull on pajama bottoms you will need 1-3/8 yard of 45” fabric.
For long pull on pajama bottoms you will need 2-3/4 yard of 45” fabric.
Buy an extra 1/4 yard if you are above average height (over 5’5” for women, over 5’10” for men).
